Slaughter and May is advising SmarTone Telecommunications Holdings Limited (0315.HK) (“SmarTone”) on its cessation of mobile services in Macau and its continuity-of-services agreement with Companhia de Telecomunicações de Macau, S.A.R.L. (“CTM”), under which CTM agrees to continue providing mobile services to SmarTone’s customers in Macau for their remaining contract periods.
The Macau Post and Telecommunications Bureau is monitoring and supervising the transition works.
SmarTone is a leading telecommunications provider with operating subsidiaries in Hong Kong and Macau, offering voice, multimedia and mobile broadband services, as well as fixed fibre broadband services, for both consumer and corporate markets. SmarTone has been listed in Hong Kong since 1996, and is a subsidiary of Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited.
Established in 1981, CTM has been the leading telecommunications services provider in Macau, offering a full range of professional telecommunications services including mobile, fixed telephony, fibre broadband and enterprise solutions. CTM’s majority shareholder is CITIC Telecom International Holdings Limited (with a 99% shareholding), whilst Macao Postal Saving holds the remaining 1%.
