Slaughter and May is advising the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport of the UK Government on the commercial, State aid and regulatory aspects of setting up the £500 million Film and TV Production Restart Scheme being put in place by the UK Government in response to the coronavirus pandemic (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/film-tv-production-restart-scheme).

The Film and TV Production Restart Scheme was launched in order to assist film and television productions which have been halted, delayed or unable to commence due to their inability to obtain appropriate insurance for certain COVID-19 related risks in commercial markets. The scheme offers compensation to eligible participants who have incurred losses arising from the interruption, postponement or abandonment of their productions as a result of cast member and crew illnesses and other disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Slaughter and May team is being led by partners Robert Chaplin and Craig Cleaver. Isabel Taylor is leading on obtaining State aid approval from the European Commission for the Scheme. Ben Kingsley and Srijanee Bhattacharyya are leading on regulatory aspects.
