Slaughter and May advised BHP on the global competition law aspects of its 50/50 joint venture with Lundin Mining Corporation (Lundin) in respect of the joint ownership and future development of certain mining assets located in South America. The mining assets concerned are the Filo del Sol project, a copper-gold-silver deposit located on the Chile/Argentina border, and the Josemaría project, a copper-gold-silver project located in Argentina. The joint venture will create a long-term partnership between BHP and Lundin to jointly develop an emerging copper district with world-class potential. BHP’s total cash payment for the Transaction was US$2.0 billion.
