Jason is a Partner in our corporate department. He is recognised as a leading corporate lawyer who is involved in a wide range of corporate, commercial and financing work, advising major companies, financial institutions and fund management groups. He regularly advises in relation to complex matters involving the Hong Kong regulatory authorities and governmental bodies.

Jason read law at Oxford University and is admitted to practise law in Hong Kong and England and Wales.

Jason has also worked in the London Office of Slaughter and May.

  • MTR Corporation Limited, Hong Kong’s mass transit railway operator in relation to:
    • The establishment of the statutory regime that governs the operation of railways in Hong Kong
    • its privatisation and IPO on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, being Hong Kong’s first and, to date, only privatisation and IPO of its kind
    • its merger with the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) being one of the largest and most complex mergers ever done in Asia
    • the operational and financial arrangements for the US$10.7 billion Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link
    • the operational and financial arrangements for the Shatin to Central Link 
    • the financing, construction and operation of numerous new railway lines and projects, including:
      • the Kwu Tung Station and Tuen Mun South extension projects
      • the Tung Chung Line extension project
      • the Oyster Bay Station project
      • the West Island Line project
      • the South Island Line East project
      • the Tsueng Kwan O project
      • the Disney Resort Line
    • the construction and operation of the Tung Chung Cable Car on Lantau Island
    • the acquisition of part of the business of Rail Sourcing Solutions Limited, a supplier of components for the transport industry
    • the issue and updating of MTR’s US$2 billion Debt Issuance Programme
  • JP Morgan JF Asset Management Group on the launch of various retail funds
  • Oxford Asset Management Group on the launch of the OxAM Quant Fund
  • Mercer on its agreement to acquire SCM Strategic Capital Management AG
  • several international hedge fund groups, on the establishment of operations in Hong Kong

Jason is ranked as a Highly Regarded Lawyer by IFLR1000 Asia Pacific 2024 for Private Equity and is recognised as an Elite Lawyer in the 2023 edition of China Business Law Journal.

Jason has been a member of one of the Securities and Futures Commission disciplinary committees and currently sits on the Hong Kong Law Society’s Transportation and Logistics Committee.

Jason recently co-authored: the Hong Kong chapter of the 13th edition of The Mergers and Acquisitions Review 2019 and the 9th edition of The Asset Management Review 2020, both published by Law Business Research; the Hong Kong chapter of the European Lawyer publication Hedge Funds Jurisdictional Comparisons, to date the only definitive guide to hedge funds law in Hong Kong.
