David advises on the full range of employment legal matters, including claims in the Employment Tribunal and the Employment Appeal Tribunal (particularly complex discrimination claims and industrial relations matters) and high value breach of contract claims in the High Court. David has also advised on the arbitration of employment disputes involving Premier League football clubs under the FA Rules.

David has a wealth of experience navigating sensitive employment law issues, often involving elements of crisis management - such as board-level hires and exits, disputes involving senior personnel at top-flight sports clubs, workplace investigations, and union recognition issues.

On transactional matters, he has advised on the employment aspects of complex mergers and acquisitions for some of the largest global companies, including joint ventures involving employees in multiple jurisdictions, detailed separation and integration issues and extensive information and consultation requirements.

Recent highlights include advising:

  • Vodafone Group Plc on the merger between Vodafone UK and Three UK.
  • A Premier League football club on strategically important personnel matters relating to the appointment of senior staff who were critical to the football operations of the Club, including an employment-related dispute involving another Premier League club.
  • Whitbread Group Plc on the employment aspects of a business reorganisation impacting hundreds of sites and requiring extensive consultation with employees and their representatives.
  • NewDay Cards Ltd on the acquisition of the Argos-branded store card portfolio from Home Retail Group Card Services Ltd, a subsidiary of J Sainsbury plc.

David is a member of the Training Committee of the Employment Lawyers Association.
