Preparing secondary school students for their futures
For over 15 years, we have partnered with Central Foundation Boys’ School in Islington, with employee volunteers working with students in two main projects:
Student mentoring
Our employee volunteers mentor students to help them decide their post-sixth form options and support the school with career insight workshops.
The Key Project
Delivered in partnership with education charity The Access Project, our employee volunteers tutor GCSE and A-Level students on a weekly basis to improve their academic attainment. We also fund a dedicated University Access Officer, based at the school co-ordinating the programme and university progression and advice, working with over 80 students per year.
The School’s partnership with Slaughter and May, particularly with the Key Project, has been a significant factor in the transformation of the university destinations of our students. Slaughter and May’s sustained support over an extended period has allowed the programmes to be embedded and improved over time, which has in turn resulted in increased impact. Taking part in the Key Project is a small contribution from each individual tutor which can have a significant impact on students. The moment when my student says: ‘Ahhhh, I get it now’ and a big smile comes over his face is pure joy. Valerie Kemp, Associate and Key Project Tutor
