Slaughter and May announces next Senior Partner
Slaughter and May, the leading international law firm, today announces that it has elected the firm’s next Senior Partner. Roland Turnill will take up the role on 1 May 2024, at the end of Steve Cooke’s term as Senior Partner.
Roland joined Slaughter and May in 1996 and became a Partner in 2004. He is Head of the firm’s Mergers and Acquisitions practice and Co-Head of the Financial Institutions Group. He has been a member of the Partnership Board since 2016. He acts for a number of listed clients including Vodafone, Royal Dutch Shell and Prudential.
Roland will continue in full time practice, working with clients until a transition period begins in early 2024.
Today’s news follows the recent appointment of Deborah Finkler who becomes the firm’s first Managing Partner from 1 May 2022, as part of a change in structure of the executive function at Slaughter and May, which will also see the appointment of a Chief Operating Officer.
Steve Cooke says, “I am delighted that Roland will be my successor. The energy and drive he brings to his client relationships and the excellent job that he is doing currently as Head of M&A and FIG co-head mean he will bring a wealth of experience when he steps into the Senior Partner role in 2024. The decision to appoint the next Senior Partner well ahead of time is consistent with our approach of long term decision making as we bring in a new management structure over the coming months”.
Roland added, “It is an honour to have been elected as the firm’s next Senior Partner and I look forward to stepping into that role in 2024. In the meantime, my priorities are to support Steve and to help to further build and develop the firm’s client relationships”.
