Slaughter and May ranked 5th in 2024 Social Mobility Employer Index
Law firm Slaughter and May has been ranked 5th in the Social Mobility Employer Index, an annual benchmarking tool for employers that are improving socio-economic diversity. This is the seventh consecutive year the firm has been named as a Top 75 Employer and represents a move of 14 places, up from 19th in 2023.
The Index highlights the top UK employers who are taking action to ensure they are open to and progressing talent from all backgrounds and is widely considered the authority on employer-led social mobility due to the rigorous assessment involved in participation.
This year’s position at number 5 recognises the firm’s continued commitment to support students and professionals from lower socio-economic backgrounds. This includes our dedicated social mobility targets and action plan, which aim to increase the representation of lower socio-economic background individuals at the firm from 18% to 25% by 2033. In addition, the firm’s Spring Forward work experience programme targeted at law students from lower socio-economic and/or ethnic minority backgrounds and its reporting on socio-economic pay gap were highlighted in the ranking.
The firm was also recognised for its work with clients and suppliers to raise awareness and act on the challenges faced by individuals from lower socio-economic backgrounds throughout the sector and beyond.
Uzma Hamid-Dizier, Director of Responsible Business at Slaughter and May, comments: “We are deeply committed to increasing access to the sector for people from lower socio-economic backgrounds and ensuring that they succeed. We are pleased to be recognised once again in the Social Mobility Employer Index and we will continue to do more as a firm through collaborating with our people, our clients, non-profit partners and experts in this field to push for greater social mobility.”
Sarah Atkinson, CEO of the Social Mobility Foundation, says: “Congratulations to Slaughter and May for placing in the Top 75 in this year’s Social Mobility Employer Index, coming 5th. This fantastic achievement speaks to the firm’s sustained commitment to social mobility.”
