This chapter of the Banking Regulation Review describes the regulatory framework that applies to the UK banking sector and key recent regulatory developments in that sector, including over the past year.
That period has seen the UK banking sector remain resilient despite a challenging macroeconomic environment and the first use of the Bank of England’s resolution powers since 2011. Developments have included ongoing progress on UK regulatory framework reforms; UK implementation of the final Basel III standards; firms’ preparation for the FCA’s new Consumer Duty before its introduction in July 2023. Other areas have also been active in the sector, including cryptoassets regulation, AI and sustainability.
