European Commission ends long-running investigation by accepting Gazprom commitments
On 24 May 2018 the European Commission made binding a set of commitments offered by Russian gas company Gazprom to ensure the free flow of natural gas at competitive prices in Central and Eastern European gas markets. The decision formally closes the Commission’s probe into Gazprom’s suspected abuse of dominance in these markets. The commitments will remain legally binding for eight years, while non-compliance may result in a fine of up to ten per cent of the company’s worldwide turnover.
