Brexit - next steps following the triggering of Article 50

On 29 March 2017, the UK notified the European Council of its intention to withdraw from the EU, pursuant to Article 50 of the Treaty of the European Union. This starts the formal process of the UK’s exit from the EU, kick‑starting a two year period for the UK and the EU to negotiate the terms of the UK’s exit. It also considers the next steps in the “Brexit” process, and the relevant stakeholders who will be involved in the coming negotiations.

This article also considers the recent European Commission White Paper on the Future of Europe.
