Steven is a partner with a vast financing, infrastructure and energy practise. He was appointed by the Kenyan Capital Markets Authority as a Member of the Capital Markets Financial Law Review Panel. He has worked in the energy and infrastructure sector for over 30 years, working on projects and transactions in well over 50 countries. Steven works across the value chain, and acts for sponsors, governments and state owned enterprises, banks, private equity and major trading houses. 

He was the Project Financing Lawyer of the Year 2020 and Who’s Who Legal: Thought Leader – Global Elites for 2021 and 2022 (the only recipient from England).  Steven is also Visiting Professor at Kings College London, and responsible for the project finance module of the masters programme in the Law School.  He is currently an External Examiner at the University. Steven is also the only UK lawyer named in the WWL Thought Leaders: Global Elite 2021 for Energy in the UK.

Relevant experience includes :

  • Hyphen Hydrogen Energy as lead global counsel on the multi-billion US dollar structuring and development of a vertically integrated large-scale green hydrogen project in Namibia, including renewable generation, water desalination and transport, electrolysis, hydrogen transport, and ammonia production, storage, and shipping
  • Oil and gas industry working group (over 25 companies) in negotiations with the Central Bank of the Central African Monetary Union on its FX control regulations
  • the Ghana Government on the privatisation of The Electricity Company of Ghana
  • the Government of Somaliland on its ground breaking power and water project in Berbera
